Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do you have a control system, compatible with environmental controls?

Yes! Environmental control systems that use infra red & radio signals to control devices around the home can now be operated directly from a Pilot+ Joystick Module. The Pilot+ Joystick Module (JSM) supports an extra operating mode, whereby joystick movements can be used to navigate the screens of compatible environmental control products. This has always been achievable by using an Omni+ & relevant input device in conjunction with our Auxiliary Control Module, (ACM); however, this new approach separates environmental control from speciality controls and is, therefore, a far more cost effective solution.

All that is required are environmental control type Joystick Modules; these are referred to as JSM-env & JSM-L-env. The ‘-L’ refers to lighting, so if the wheelchair has lights this is the product to use. These products operate in an identical fashion to the familiar JSM & JSM-L in that the ‘Mode’ button is used to step from drive mode, to speed adjustment mode, to actuator control mode, but also now environmental control mode. In this mode the joystick can be used to select & operate functions of the compatible environmental control system. There is absolutely no need to re-program the system, it is a totally ‘plug ‘n’ play’ connection. The JSM-env products can also be used in conjunction with an ACM to control environmental devices, which accept switch inputs.

To indicate environmental control mode, the lower 5 bars of the battery gauge are permanently illuminated while the upper 5 bars step up. While in this mode, the joystick is used to navigate around the screen of the environmental control device. If a JSM-L-env is used, the left & right turn indicator buttons can also be used by the environmental control device, for example, to emulate a computer mouse function. (SRS Technology currently manufactures environmental controls, which are directly compatible with both Pilot+ & Omni+, i.e. no ACM is needed).
